Superfood of the Sea: Mandarin Fish Au Gratin

Superfood of the Sea: Mandarin Fish Au Gratin

As the days grow shorter and the weather colder, few things sound as comforting as a warm, cheesy dish straight from the oven. And this autumn, we're adding one more recipe to our repertoire: Mandarin Fish Au Gratin!

The star of this dish is, of course, the mandarin fish. This colorful saltwater fish is found in Southeast Asia and is related to both the barracuda and salmon. It has a delicate flavor that pairs well with cheese and other seasonings, making it perfect for au gratin recipes like this one.

For the best results, we recommend using a Gruyère cheese in your recipe. But if you can't find Gruyère, any other shredded cheese will work well. Just make sure to preheat your oven to 375 degrees before beginning so that your dish will be hot and bubbly when it's ready to serve.

Here's what you'll need to make your own Mandarin Fish Au Gratin:

-1 ½ pounds mandarin fish fillets -1 tablespoon olive oil -1 small onion, diced -1 cloves garlic, minced -1 cup vegetable stock -½ cup white wine -1 teaspoon dried thyme -Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste -1 cups shredded Gruyère cheese or other cheese of choice -2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

To start, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until hot. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Then add the mandarin fish fillets and cook until opaque throughout, about 3 minutes per side. Pour in the vegetable stock and white wine and bring to a simmer. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper then remove from heat. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F before transferring mandarin fish mixture to an oven safe baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheese then bake for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving hot. Enjoy!
